The actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty resigned from Rajya Sabha on Monday. The 66-year-old mentioned health issues as the reason for resigning from the Upper House of the Parliament.
He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in February last year by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and he took the oath as MP four months later. TMC leader Derek O'Brien said, "We continue to share a warm relationship with him and his family, wish him a speedy recovery."
On the other hand, close aides of Mithun mentioned that his proximity with the ruling party and the allegations of his involvement with the Saradha scam was leading to the trouble in his professional and personal life.
It is notable that despite being elected to Rajya Sabha, Mithun skipped most of the Parliament session and important functions of the TMC after being summoned by the central agency. In fact, it is a major issue that when the prominent faces, especially from Bollywood join politics, they hardly do any serious work.
From Hema Malini to Dharmendra to Jaya Bachchan, actors joining politics have come under criticism from time to time for not working enough and being active at the ground level politics. Very few of theBollywood faces like Shatrughan Sinha, Raj Babbar are visible amid all political action on the ground.
